About Us
Bio-101 is a Bio-protocol’s sister database for life science protocols. Its mission is to make life science research more efficient and reproducible by building an open platform for life scientists to share, find and discuss research protocols.

We are strong supporters of transparent methods and think that being able to communicate questions directly to authors is vital. It is for this reason that the Request a Protocol feature aims to break down barriers between researchers and authors to allow information to flow easily between these groups. Additionally, Bio-101 supports community-driven post-publication review. Post publication comments and suggestions on protocol steps are hosted with the method.

There are three types of protocols available from Bio-101. Preprint protocols that have been submitted directly by the authors in response to a user request via Request a Protocol or through Bio-101's Submit a Protocol channel, concise protocols that have been extracted from the methods sections of primary research articles and peer-reviewed protocols that have been published in the Bio-protocol journal.

Our vision – improving reproducibility

Sharing detailed methods and fostering direct communication among scientists will improve reproducibility and greatly accelerate discoveries in life science research.

Who we are - passionate early-career researchers

Bio-101's editorial board is primarily postdocs and junior faculty members. As early-career life-science researchers, who actively and routinely design, conduct and supervise experiments, we have the broad expertise to ensure the quality and clarity of the published protocols.

Where we are going - revolutionizing the way researchers communicate

Bio-101 is not just "another" protocol database. We hope that our protocols will serve as the anchor points for our authors and users to form vibrant micro-networks from which everyone involved will benefit. Our ultimate goal is to help drastically improve reproducibility and accelerate the research process.
